1. Kansas City Chiefs 9-0 (1st place, AFC West): The Chiefs want to move closer to capturing the top spot, the lone bye and home field advantage by staying undefeated and beating the No. 2 Bills on the road.

2. Buffalo Bills 8-2 (first place, AFC East): The Bills would have a real chance to overtake the Chiefs for No. 1 by season’s end if they beat the Chiefs at home, which would cut the lead to a half-game and give the Bills the head-to-head tiebreaker. .

3. Pittsburgh Steelers 8-2 (first place, AFC North): The Steelers are now 1.5 games ahead of the Ravens after outlasting them in Pittsburgh on Sunday. The teams meet again in Baltimore in Week 16 and the Steelers still must navigate a tough second-half schedule to win the division.

4. Houston Texans 6-4 (first place, AFC South) The Texans hold a strong two-game lead over the Colts, whom they have defeated twice, and are positioned to cruise to a second straight division title. However, it seems less likely that they will finish higher than number 3.

5. Baltimore Ravens 7-4 (second place, AFC North): The Ravens must spend the last seven weeks trying to gain ground on the Steelers in an effort to set up a de facto title game in Baltimore in Week 16.

6. Los Angeles Chargers 6-3 (second place, AFC West): The Chargers continue to beat the teams they should beat to boost their strong playoff chances in their first season under Jim Harbaugh. That makes Sunday night’s home game against the Bengals crucial.

7. Denver Broncos 5-5 (third place, AFC West): The Broncos are loosely clinging to the final playoff spot despite losing back-to-back tough road games in Baltimore and Kansas City. They need to bounce back at home against the Falcons.

Who’s on the hunt?

  • 8. Indianapolis Colts 5-6 (second place, AFC South)
  • 9. Miami Dolphins 4-6 (second place, AFC East)
  • 10. Cincinnati Bengals 4-6 (third place, AFC North)

The Colts’ big win over the Jets moved them closer to the final wild card spot with a spark from Anthony Richardson. The Dolphins defeated the Bengals with their win over the Raiders thanks to a better conference record. The Bengals need to keep up with the Colts versus the Chargers.

Who’s left?

  • 11. New York Jets 3-8 (third place, AFC East)
  • 12. New England Patriots 3-8 (fourth place, AFC East)
  • 13. Cleveland Browns 2-8 (fourth place, AFC North)
  • 14. Tennessee Titans 2-8 (third place, AFC South)
  • 15. Las Vegas Raiders 2-8 (fourth place, AFC West)
  • 16. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-9 (fourth place, AFC South)

NFC Playoff Photo

1. Detroit Lions 9-1 (1st place, NFC North): The Lions retain this spot for home field advantage and the lone bye with a game against the Eagles after taking the Jaguars Week lead following the Eagles’ win on Thursday night.

2. Philadelphia Eagles 8-2 (first place, NFC East): The Eagles extended their division lead over the Commanders to 1.5 games by defeating that team at home ahead of Sunday action. They still have work to do to pass the Lions for the top seed.

3. Atlanta Falcons 6-4 (first place, NFC South): The Falcons are 4-1 in the division after losing in New Orleans and still lead the South by two games over the Buccaneers, who they have already beaten this season. A loss to the Broncos could drop them to No. 4 but otherwise have little impact on their playoff chances.

4. Arizona Cardinals 6-4 (first place, NFC West): The Cardinals are enjoying their bye week with a half-game lead over the 5-4 49ers, a 1.5-game lead over the Rams and Seahawks. They would still be in first place if the 49ers won thanks to holding the early head-to-head tiebreaker.

5. Minnesota Vikings 8-2 (second place, NFC North): The Vikings have fallen behind the Lions in the Rice division, but they continued to solidify their stellar NFC wild card position with another easy win against the Titans.

6. Green Bay Packers 7-3 (third place, NFC North): The Packers, after a Week 10 bye, went back to solidifying their own wild-card position by outlasting the Bears in Chicago in Week 11.

7. Washington Commanders 7-4 (second place, NFC East): The Commanders fell back one spot after losing their chance to regain first place in Philadelphia and are now contenders to win the division, allowing them to focus more on the final wild card.

Who’s on the hunt?

  • 8. San Francisco 49ers 5-4 (second place, NFC West)
  • 9. Los Angeles Rams 5-5 (third place, NFC West)
  • 10. Seattle Seahawks 4-5 (fourth place, NFC West)
  • 11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-6 (Second Place, NFC South)
  • 12. Chicago Bears 4-5 (fourth place, NFC North)

The 49ers clearly have the best chance here, as they can move to a half-game behind the Commanders with a win over the Seahawks. They could also be hot to pounce on to conquer the weakened NFC West. The Rams separated themselves from the losing Bears by beating the Patriots in Week 11, while the Bears fell behind the inactive Buccaneers.

Who’s left?

  • 13. New Orleans Saints 4-7 (third place, NFC South)
  • 14. Dallas Cowboys (3-6, third place, NFC East)
  • 15. Carolina Panthers 3-7 (fourth place, NFC South)
  • 16. New York Giants 2-8 (fourth place, NFC East)
