Family’s fears for Hawaiian woman who disappeared during bucket list trip to New York after sending ‘weird’ text messages

The family of a missing Hawaiian woman has revealed the “really weird” last text messages she sent last week before disappearing en route to New York City.

Hannah Kobayashi, 30, was last seen on November 8 when she left her hometown of Maui, Hawaii to visit her aunt in New York City. Kobayashi was excited about the trip, her mother Brandi Yee told HawaiiNewsNow. She even wrote in her itinerary: “Bucket list dreams come true.”

The 30-year-old flew to Los Angeles, where she was scheduled to catch another flight to the Big Apple. But according to HawaiiNewsNow, no one has heard from her since she landed in California.

Surveillance footage shows Kobayashi landing safely at Los Angeles International Airport. There she started sending text messages to a friend.

“I was tricked into giving away all my money,” the text messages said, according to HawaiiNewsNow. “For someone I thought I loved.”

Her sister, Sydni Kobayashi, described the lyrics as “really weird.”

“She texted her saying she was scared and she couldn’t come home or something,” the 30-year-old’s sister told HawaiiNewsNow. “They were just really strange text messages.”

“I think it’s weird because it doesn’t sound like her, like there’s just something strange about it,” she added. “So I wasn’t so sure. I don’t know if it’s her or if someone else was texting.”

Yee told HawaiiNewsNow that the first time she knew something was wrong was when she stopped hearing from Kobayashi. When Yee contacted Kobayashi’s aunt, she confirmed that the 30-year-old never made it to the city.

“She says, ‘No. She was going to meet me at the hotel in New York City and we were going to go to a show tonight,” Yee said.

The family has filed a missing person report with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Yee issued a public appeal to anyone who might have information about her daughter: “Please help her if you can. If you know where she is, or if you have a chance to help her, please. We just want to bring her home.”
