Coastal Flood Watch canceled for Charleston, Colleton Counties

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The National Weather Service said a coastal flood warning issued for two counties Saturday morning is no longer in effect.

The agency issued a warning for coastal Charleston and Colleton counties until 10 a.m.

High tide occurred at about 8 a.m. and was expected to reach major flood stage, which could cause flooding of 3 to 2 feet along shorelines and tidal waterways, Live 5 First Alert meteorologist Chris Holtzman said.

Those floods would make roads impassable in flood-prone areas.

The Highway 61 ramp from US 17 SB in West Ashley was closed just before 7:30 a.m. due to flooding.

According to Charleston’s road closure page, portions of Lockwood Drive, Fishburne Street and Hagood Avenue were also closed due to flooding.

The National Weather Service said flooding was expected for up to two hours after high tide.

When roads are closed due to flooding, authorities say motorists should never drive around barricades on flooded roads.
