The first taste of winter arrives later this week

  • Increasing cloudiness during the day
  • Chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Mountain snow possible Thursday through Saturday

MONDAY

We start the new working week with an unusually warm day. High temperatures will be 10°F to 15°F above normal in mid-November. Clouds will increase throughout the day with highs in the 60s and low 70s.

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY

A cold front will pass through our hometown on Wednesday. Light, scattered showers are likely to move from west to east in the second half of the year Tuesday and linger all day Wednesday. This event won’t compare to last Thursday’s rain, but still enough to bring an umbrella.

Highs will be in the 60s through Wednesday.

TEMPERATURES ARRIVE THURSDAY, SNOW BUTTERS ARRIVE THURSDAY

Our main weather headline this week is the big drop in temperatures from Wednesday to Thursday. This means that in about 24 hours we will have a temperature change of 15-20 degrees.

Temperatures will drop into the 40s, with highs later this week.

FIRST WARNING: Also, a wintry mix of sleet and snow is possible for elevations above 3,500 feet, with light snow accumulations in places like the Greenbrier Valley and Snowshoe Mountain Thursday through Saturday morning. Some of that activity could also have minor impacts on hometowns west of I-77. We’ll have a better idea of how this will shape up soon, so check back later!

We are keeping an eye on the possibility of a winter mix event on the slopes from Thursday to Friday.

While not everyone will experience a wintry mix, we expect widespread high winds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There can sometimes be gusts of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

With lows in the 30s, prepare for some bitter cold wind chills (or perceived temperatures) Friday and Saturday morning!
