Ja’Marr Chase’s comment on Zac Taylor says it all about the 2024 Bengals

After another heartbreaking loss as his Cincinnati Bengals fell to 4-7, Ja’Marr Chase brought up head coach Zac Taylor’s name.

And that says enough, right?

Chase did this when asked about finishing games after the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

“How should I do it?” Chase said, according to Paul Dehner Jr. from The Athletic. “I don’t know. Ask Zac. Ask the coaches. Don’t ask me. It’s not my job. I play football on the field. I don’t call plays for us. So I can’t really do anything.”

On the one hand, this is what Chase often does when he’s frustrated after a loss, usually deferring to the head coach on broader issues.

But on the other hand, it is the broader issues that are letting the Bengals down. The composition of the squad over the past two years has been terrible and it shows on the pitch.

And right now, no one is safe from criticism… or responsibility – which explained Germaine Pratt’s breakdown during the match.

If the Bengals keep losing, Chase might be on to something. There will obviously be roster turnover, but it’s safe to reason that a coaching staff overhaul may also be on the way.
