James Harden knows he won’t pass Warriors’ Steph Curry on the three-point list – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Steph Curry revolutionized the game of basketball with his three-point shooting, but even the next generation of hoopers he inspired will likely never achieve his most prestigious record.

That includes none of the current NBA stars, including Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden, who passed Ray Allen for second on the league’s all-time three-point list against the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

The 35-year-old Harden (2,975) trails the 36-year-old Curry (3,782) with 807 three-pointers and enters Monday’s slate of games, with both players likely nearing the end of their respective Hall of Fame careers at some point . in the coming seasons, it is highly unlikely that Harden will rise any further on the three-point list.

Even he knows it.

“I’m one of the most confident guys we have in this league. But no. I’m probably not going to get Steph,” Harden said when asked if he could pass Curry. “I honestly don’t think anyone will… He can shoot the ball.

“And granted, a lot of these guys are on that list as catch-and-shoot players, so they were coming off pindowns, they were spot shots or something like that. Now where the game has evolved, guys like Steph are coming off pindowns, he’s coming off ISOs, he’s coming off pick-and-rolls. So there are so many different variables to being able to shoot the 3, make shots and do it at an efficient high level.

“So someone has to have an incredible career, shoot the ball well and make a lot of threes. I mean, if it happens, it will be when we’re gone. So that’s going to take a while.” minute.”

Game recognition game.

Outside of Curry and Harden, other active players at the top of the list include Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard (No. 4; 2,639, Dallas’ Klay Thompson (No. 6; 2,523), Los Angeles’ LeBron James (No. 8; 2,441) and Paul George No. 11 from Philadelphia;

And none of them, including Harden, are likely to come close to Curry’s record.
