Josh Brolin Shares the Truth About His Sobriety After Being ‘Born to Drink’

In May 2023, the One Direction alum celebrated 100 days of sobriety.

“I feel great,” he said at the time. “I feel really good, and the support from the fans and everything has been really good.”

His struggle began during the height of 1D mania. “The problem we had in the band – and I don’t blame anyone for this… But it feels to me like, when we were in the band, the best way to secure ourselves, because of how big it got, was to just lock us in a room. And of course, what’s in the minibar,” Liam shared. “So at one point I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to have a party for one,’ and that seemed to be the case for many years of my life to continue.”

He has been open about his sobriety throughout. “It wasn’t until I saw myself after that that I was like, ‘Okay, I gotta fix myself,’” he recalled in June 2021, saying he had been sober for more than a month at the time. “It was like a couple of pictures of me on a boat and I’m all bloated, and I call it a pills-and-booze face… My face was like ten times more than it is now. And I just didn’t find myself so nice, so then I changed something.”
