Capitals vs. Summary Utah: Caps continue offensive dominance in 6-win

Did Alex Ovechkin score? Sure enough, he did. He did it twice!

Plus: Outside of the obvious two-goal game from Alex Ovechkin, I think the biggest plus is that the Caps are coming into a game where they were very tired (played the night before, their third game in four days and four games in six days), against a team they don’t play very well against (3-5 since 2020 and 11-13 since 2009) and getting a strong 6-2 win is only a plus. It wasn’t a dominant win (score aside), but this is a game that, given the circumstances, great teams win.

Minus: Nothing puts a damper on a big win like the possibility of losing Ovechkin to injury. About halfway through the third period, he took an incidental knee-on-knee, stayed down and then needed some help to get off the ice. After doing a little test spin, he decided to enter the tunnel and his night was over. Put on your prayer caps and send all the good vibes to Ovechkin now.

Key moment: There isn’t one specific moment that stood out in the Caps’ win, but killing all the penalties in a game is good, killing seven of them just makes it very impressive. The Caps had to kill four of their own in the first period, including nearly half a minute of five-on-three. The game could have gone quickly away from the Caps after an early defeat, but the penalty was huge and did not allow a goal.

Our three stars:
*** Dylan Strome (1G, 1A)
**Brandon Duhaime (1G, 1A)
* Alexander Ovechkin (2G)
