Josh Brolin remembers Barbra Streisand’s response when he asked for wine: “Aren’t you a drunk?”

Josh Brolin recalls a candid interaction he had with Barbra Streisand about his drinking.

In an interview published on Saturday, November 16 with The times to promote his upcoming memoir From under the truckthe No country for old men actor spoke about his sobriety and an incident involving his famous stepmother.

Before he was sober, Josh, 56, once went to his father James Brolin, 84, and Streisand’s house and asked for a glass of wine. Streisand, 82, who married James in 1996, responded: “But aren’t you a drunk?”

“At the end of the day, there’s nothing I appreciate more in someone than the ability to just say it, regardless of the reaction,” he said.

Josh got sober in 2013 after waking up outside his house after a drunken night out, and later standing guard at his grandmother’s deathbed, smelling of alcohol. It was then that he realized he was halfway through his life and wanted to live the second half sober.

“I knew that would be the last time I drank,” he said The times. He went to rehab and joined Alcoholics Anonymous. “I love getting older. It’s a great excuse to finally say, ‘Okay, just calm down, you don’t have to spin all the time,'” he added.
