Diocese of Brooklyn demotes monsignor who sent millions to Adams advisor

A top monsignor in Brooklyn has been relieved of administrative duties at a Williamsburg parish after a diocesan investigation found he transferred nearly $2 million in church funds to a law firm and other accounts tied to a former chief of staff to Mayor Eric Adams.

mgr. Jamie Gigantiello will remain the head of Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in Williamsburg, but will not have any administrative oversight, the diocese announced.

Bishop Robert Brennan said in a statement that after a year-long investigation, Gigantiello has been removed “from any pastoral supervision or administrative role in the parish for mishandling substantial church funds and interfering with the administration of the parish after he was instructed not to do so.” do that.”
