Check your refrigerator for recalled carrots

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Local health officials are asking you to check your refrigerator for recalled carrots.

We are closely monitoring this recall and so far no one has reported sick in Wisconsin, but the contaminated organic carrots were sold here.

Brown County Public Health says Grimmway Farms has recalled 35 brands of organic carrots and baby carrots because they may be contaminated with E.coli.

The recalled carrots were distributed nationwide and include popular brands sold at Walmart, Target, Kroger, Whole Foods, Sprouts and other retailers.

You may recognize some of the brands, including Full Circle, Good & Gather and Marketside.

One person died and dozens of others have reported falling ill in 18 states. There are cases in Michigan and Minnesota.

The organic baby carrots had a “Best If Used By” date ranging from September 11 to November 12.

The whole organic carrots had an expiration date ranging from August 14 to October 23.

Grimmway Farms says the recalled carrots will likely no longer be sold in stores. The concern is that you might still have some at home.

The company is now investigating what happened and says it will review its growing, harvesting and processing practices.

Symptoms of E.coli include bad stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms usually appear 3 to 4 days after eating the contaminated food.

If you think you or someone at home is sick, see a doctor and let him or her know if you have had some of the recalled carrots.
